Why Join a Therapeutic Men's Circle?
It is too common of a story, that men feel disconnected from their emotions and their vulnerability and do not have emotionally healthy male friendships. The pressures that are placed upon men to be strong providers and protectors often lead to feelings of unworthiness or inadequacies, which can lead to disconnection with family, community, and self. Working with men of all ages, I bring this understanding into my work, and support men in expressing their feelings and beliefs. Normalizing this shared experience and sharing their truth, is a step to feel less alone, build a bond of trust with themselves and move towards living a more authentic life.
Many of us living in these times do not have access to a healthy communal space to express grief, fear, shame, anger, and joy. As men, we are often taught that expressing vulnerable feelings like shame or sorrow is something to be done only in extreme circumstances, and if vulnerable emotions are expressed, it should be done quickly and privately. This conditioning and pathologizing leads most of us to carry the burden of unprocessed and unwitnessed emotions throughout our lives which can lead to anxiety, depression, isolating, and addictive tendencies.

What Will We Do During the Men's Circle
In our time together we will share, witness, and honor our truths and feelings, whatever they may be. You will be invited to speak and listen from the heart. You will be invited to connect with other men and with your self. We will share in simple rituals and practices that honor the fullness and wholeness of life. You will be encouraged to step more fully into your accountability with your family, community, and self. You will be invited to support other men as they share their feelings and perspectives.
You will be offered tools in both connecting to your feelings and expressing your feelings in a mature and healthy way. You will be given space to share your personal struggles and express your feelings and perspectives. You will be encouraged and supported in envisioning the life you want to embody and will be given simple and practical tools to help you on your journey. You will have opportunities to offer support to other men in the circle and will be encouraged to build connections outside of the men's circle meetings.
These circles are about sharing what is true for you, whether that is tears or anger, numbness or fear. These men's circles calls in authenticity and connection. There is no expectation that you express your feelings and beliefs in any specific way. We are not here to fix you. We are here to listen and express gratitude for your willingness to share your feelings and experience. This is not a solemn or morbid event, this is a life affirming event. All of you is welcome.
